When
Fatal Attraction insisted on taking us paint-balling before we spoke to
them, we knew this wasn’t going to be you’re average interview!
Bruised and battered, we met West London’s answer to Jay-Z’s Roc-a-fella
empire and found out why they’re looking to take over...
“It’s not about guns” La Lucci tells me as I wipe the paint off my
head and try not to pass out. “We did this because there’s a place for
guns, there’s a place for taking out your anger and it ain’t on the
street!” “Fatal Attraction is about being real” adds Cheeky, “but
it’s always positive, we don’t promote guns and all that, you can be
real but avoid that stuff”.
Now getting regular bookings at Garage Fever, as well as various events as
far away as Nottingham and Birmingham, Fatal Attraction are starting to
get noticed. MCs La Lucci, Cheeky, Carte, and Chuckie, along with DJs
Marky and Dreadie have been working separately for a while, growing up in
the same area; it was only a matter of time before they linked up. Hailing
from West London, they are one of only a handful of crews from the area
getting recognition. “All sides have got their artists except West. The
problem here is everyone is just watching everyone else, instead of coming
together and collaborating. Everyone is just dissing everyone!” Carte
tells me.
With the first underground single ‘8-bar’ dropping imminently, the
future is looking good, but the plans the crew have for the next year
stretch far beyond just pushing out beats. “We are planning to drop
three singles, two videos, do some film work plus start our own clothing
label” says La Lucci, “We’ve got all kinds of stuff coming” adds
Chuckie, “hip hop, all styles, all coming on Takeover Records”. Hip
hop is a big influence on the group, “Especially the Lox” says Cheeky,
“we are all really into what they do.” “There are a lot of MCs out
there you hear on radio and think ‘what are they talking about?” adds
Chuckie. “We are about talking sense, we talk about girls a lot, we are
known for talking about girls! We talk about being poor, making money,
anything real, as long as its done in a positive way.”
Watch out for this lot, it looks like West London is finally ready to step
up to the mic... |
